Review by Nellie Rainwater
Kalamandir Dance Company’s Ria DasGupta and Brinda Guha are joyful performers. For much of the piece “WATER”, they are mirror images of one another in a dance that fuses Indian dance, Modern dance, and Ballet. The music is also inspired by nature with the sounds of a stream and birds overlapping with Indian instrumentation. The dancers stamp their feet in time with the music, but they also gesture gently and change levels in space from high to low. The piece was both playful and meditative and a pleasure to take in.
